Istanbul is the city that connects two continents, Europe and Asia. It is ancient and modern, conservative and free-wheeling at the same time. If you pay attention you will notice it very quickly. We fell in love with Istanbul from the first sight. In this article we would love to share our most Instagrammable places in Istanbul.
1. The Grand Bazaar
The Grand Bazaar is one of the largest and oldest covered bazaars in the world. The Grand Bazaar is 30,700 square meters with over 60 streets and alleys and 4,000 shops. You can find anything you want at the bazaar, but most importantly a shop where you can take an awesome Instagram photo. 2. Hagia Sophia
It is one of the greatest structures in the world. It was built as a Christian Church in the 6th century. Then after Ottomans conquered Constantinople they converted the church into a mosque. After Ottoman Empire fell the mosque became a museum. However, in July 2020, it became a functioning mosque again.
3. The Blue Mosque
One of the iconic places to visit in Istanbul is the Blue Mosque. The mosque is known as the Blue Mosque because of blue tiles surrounding the walls of interior design. Did you know that the word turquoise comes from French for “Turkish”, as the gem was originally imported from Turkey.
4. Galata Tower
Galata Tower was originally named as the Tower of Christ. The 66.9-meter (220-foot)-high tower was the highpoint in the city walls of the Genoese colony called Galata. Most of the walls are long gone, but the great tower, with its 3.75-meter (12-foot)-thick walls remains. The story is told of how, in 1638, a certain Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi attached wings to his body and flew (more likely coasted) across the Bosphorus to Uskudar. Why he did it once, no one says, nor whether he survived…
5. Ortakoy Mosque
Ortakoy Mosque attracts thousands of people every day to take the iconic photo of the mosque and the Bosphorus Bridge that is stretching between Europe and Asia in the background. The best time to come is early in the morning to avoid the crowd.
6. Umbrella Street
In order to find the Umbrella Street you can just type it in the Google Map and it will lead you there. There are several little streets with umbrellas that will give you a choice for a cool photo.
7. Dolmabahce Palace
Dolmabahce Palace built in the 19th century is one of the most glamorous palaces in the world. It was the administrative center of the late Ottoman Empire, with the last of Ottoman Sultans was residing there. In our opinion it is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world. The amount of work that was put into each room is just incredible. The best time to come is early morning, because this palace is highly visited even during the pandemic.
8. Emirgan Park
The best time to come to the park and take photos is during the Tulip Festival, which begins in March and lasts till June. You will find thousands of tulips, different colors, and shape.
9. Taksim Square
If you are coming to Istanbul chances are that you will be staying nearby. It is so much fun to walk down the Independence Avenue and look at all the shops or even take a tram down. There is another mosque located in Taksim Square that looks absolutely incredible especially during the sunset.
10. Serdar-I Ekrem Street
Serdar-I Ekrem Street is located nearby the Galata Tower. Here you can take photos of some street art and wander this beautiful and narrow street with many cute coffee shops and art galleries.
